We are taking our live search facility offline for two hours this morning for critical maintenance. This will not affect searching or crawling of new data.

Want to find interesting discussions on twitter? Yeah, there’s a feature for that

About a week ago we quietly launched a new feature that we think is pretty cool – an ability to filter and search for just discussions.

Check out this search for Google’s Nexus One that has been filtered by discussions:

If this is a topic that interests you, instead of just interacting with your direct friends you can actually go beyond your circle and interact with a wide variety of people based on your mutual interest in the Nexus One. Or, make sure you keep on top of what your friends are actually saying and discussion, not just single tweets but whole threads!

Don’t be passive, don’t be shy – roll up your sleeves and get involved, collaborate, keep in touch, and discover.

Yeah it’s mildly lame, but we do need your support

What? No releases yet? What’s going on at nsyght?

Worry not, we have a pretty, ahem, big release planned next week. Keep an eye on this space, but it will be cool.

In the meantime, we do need your help to get the word out about nsyght. It’s really simple too – only requires two clicks of your mouse! Woohoo, where do I sign?

When you login to nsyght, you’ll notice a simple link in the sidebar, it looks like this:

When you click it, we randomly insert a hip message into our posting box that you can tweet or post to your Facebook friends. Each message includes a simple link back to nsyght and a hashtag. That’s it. Don’t like the message? Well write a better one, if we like it, we’ll quite happily steal it and rob you of the credit shower you with praise and beg to re-use it.

Just a quick note to say that nsyght now support video embeds from Youtube’s new tiny url, youtu.be.

Great idea, and yeah while the url is still not as short as it could be, they have in fact sliced 11 characters down from the traditional URL.

nsyght can now send an alert when someone replies to you on twitter!

We’ve updated our notification system this evening to allow for per-service based notifications.

What this means is, when someone replies to a post you made on nsyght, twitter, or whatever, any replies we receive we can send you an email. Pretty nifty huh?

For new users, don’t worry there is nothing to do, you will see the settings right away. For existing users, we will ask you to select which services you wish to receive alerts for. The keen eye among you will notice that with Facebook, the default selection is “disabled”. This is not a bug. As Facebook provides this already, there is no sense in selecting it unless you really want to get two emails for each reply.

In case your wondering, we handle all replies received via twitter, not just replies from other nsyght users. I’m sure you knew that, but just checking.

Wow – 9.2M posts served!

Can I say wow? Can I say cool??

Since we launched last Wednesday, we’ve gotten a lot of great press and feedback from the community. And we’ve also gotten a lot of something else, your posts!

Since launching, nsyght has streamed over 9.2M events from the various services we support (though, admittedly, twitter and facebook dominate the stream), of that close to 500k of those are videos or photos – so it’s clear that everyone is posting a lot of multi-media which is great since we make it so easy to view and share media (shameless plug).

Also, 1/3 of the posts you made contain a link of some kind, while news articles are a big obvious end point, we did find quite a few audio links getting posted as well <— reaches for roadmap

Additionally, nsyght is now tracking the posts for over 500k users and growing every day. The stream is getting ever so stronger – each and every day. Nice!

As we head into the holiday season we do expect things to slow down a tad, but don’t worry we wont. Some of the changes we have cooked up before New Year’s:

- improved graph support for non-twitter and facebook services

- improved conversation & reply identification

- improved posting support

This does not include the big release we have coming today, so stay tuned!
